Plano Donation Site Announced
The City of Plano is pleased to announce the First Baptist Church of Plano,
Willow Bend Church and The Heights Baptist Church will share efforts to provide
a donation site in Plano for Katrina aid. The First Baptist Church Gymnasium
at 1300 E. 15th Street will be the site for both donations and distribution
of items. Collection will begin today at 3 p.m. with the site closing at
7 p.m. Distribution will begin tomorrow at 11 a.m.
The schedule of hours of operation beginning Tuesday, September 6 for both
collection and distribution will be Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11
a.m. to 7 p.m. This schedule of operation will be maintained until further
notice.
Items currently needed by evacuees that can be delivered to the donation
site include: (NO MATRESSES OR FURNITURE PLEASE.)
Air mattresses
Paper towels
Cots Over-the-counter medicine (new, sealed)
Bedding items (new)
Clothing (new-underwear)
Toiletries (new)
Laundry soap
Bottled water
Duffle bags
Baby care items (new, sealed)
Bookbags
Food items should be directed to local food pantries.
A school supply drive is being coordinated by the Resurrection Lutheran Church,
1919 Independence Parkway. A list of supplies for each grade is available
at the Plano Independent School District Web site,
www.pisd.edu/parents/supplies/index.shtml#School.
An information hotline has been set up: (972) 941-7777. There will be no persons
manning this line; rather, it is an information only telephone service.
Evacuees must show their registration badge to pick up supplies at the donation
site. Evacuees are being registered through a city processing center at Municipal
Center South, 1409 Avenue K.
