Junior League of Plano and City of Plano Invite Public to New Plano
Community Garden Meeting
The Junior League of Plano and the City of Plano are partnering to
create a community garden built and managed by members of the community.
Benefits of the garden would include promoting volunteerism in the
community, educational opportunities for local schools and youth-serving
organizations, and providing healthy food for our community’s hungry.
The public is invited to learn more about the community garden during
the upcoming community meeting from 7:00-8:30pm, Wednesday, November 30,
2005, Parkway Service Center, Training Room A, 4120 West Plano Parkway.
Members of the community adopt plots in which they grow and harvest
produce for a one year period in accordance with the garden’s
guidelines. Produce will be donated to a local food pantry. Plans are to
have the plots ready for planting in the spring of 2006.
Once the garden is up and running, the Junior League of Plano, in
partnership with the City, plans to host numerous garden events,
including pot luck suppers, picnics with string quartets, gardening
seminars, herbal workshops, harvest parties and art festivals.
For more information about the community garden or to help with the
growth of this project, please contact Ms. Merchant or project chair
Susan Haslam at (972) 741-0853, or
