Henry Delafield Honored as Plano Volunteer of the Month

On Monday, Aug. 28, the Plano City Council will honor Henry Delafield
as the September Volunteer of the Month. Delafield will be recognized during the regular Council Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Plano Municipal Center, 1520 K Avenue.

Delafield has spent his 15 years in Plano giving back to the community while improving the quality of life for others.  His extensive background and expertise in the game of Chess made him the perfect director for the Oak Point Center Chess Academy, which began in June 2006.  More than 75 students attend classes and tournaments through this new Academy.  They have attended the United States Junior Championship and the United States Chess Federation (USCF) this year.  Delafield has shared his talent for teaching chess at Oak Point Center, Douglass Center and the Plano Senior Center.  He offers various classes for different skill levels to anyone who would like to learn the game.

Mayor Pat Evans will present Delafield with an exclusive gift as a tribute to his commitment to Plano.

Nominations for Council Volunteer of the Month are accepted year-round.  Simply go online to www.plano.gov or get an application at a Plano library, the Collin County Volunteer Center, the Plano Chamber of Commerce or Plano Municipal Center to nominate a favorite volunteer.
