For Immediate Release: September 7, 2006 Contact: CJ Howard Homeland Security Department Phone: (972) 941-5551 Plano Encourages Citizens to Take Action During National Preparedness Month
The City of Plano Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is urging citizens to be prepared for emergencies and disaster this September in support of National Preparedness Month. Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. Plano citizens need to know what hazards they face and what actions they can take to prepare for any situation.
The most likely natural hazards to occur in Plano, according to the analysis conducted by the Plano DHS include tornadoes, severe winter ice storms, high winds and severe thunderstorms, which include lightning, hail and flash flooding. The most likely man-made hazard that may affect a Plano citizen would be a hazardous material spill due to an overturned transport vehicle.
Several companies and organizations in Plano are supporting National Preparedness Month through a variety of efforts. Many participating organizations will be passing out educational materials provided by the Plano DHS. If your organization or business is participating in National Preparedness Month, please send the Plano DHS a brief description of your planned activities, including your organization’s name and the event’s time and location to DHS@plano.gov. Your information will help Plano DHS to develop other programs to support Plano’s community effort to be ready when emergencies strike.
