Plano Public Library System Prepares Innovative, Fun Fall Children’s Programs

Over 12,598 children enjoyed the five Plano Public libraries this past summer.  The Summer Reading Program featured stories for babies through preschoolers; live animals and yo-yo demonstrations, plus puppet shows for elementary age children; game days, craft times, baseball fun for teens; and movies on Fridays.

Plano Public Library System’s Children’s Services is well underway planning events for the fall. Storytime sessions for babies through preschoolers resume September 11 with programs held during the day and evening.  Spanish/English and Chinese/English storytimes are offered in the evening. Pre-registration begins October 23 and is required for Tales for Twos.  Registration is not required for all other Storytime sessions.

As part of September’s Library Card Sign-Up Month, parents and their children are invited to free puppet shows featuring “Gunniwolf,” “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” “Three Little Pigs, What Every Cowpoke Needs” and “Three Billy Goats Gruff.”  Check with your local library for dates and times or visit www.planolibrary.org.

The Book Launch program is for children in grades first through third.  Children listen to a new book each month, share their ideas with other children, and create a craft or enjoy an activity.  Book Launch is at Schimelpfenig Library at 3:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month and at Parr Library at 3:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.

Teens & Tuesdays and Teens & Thursdays (T-N-T) for grades sixth and up are programs where teens can come for game nights, movie nights and more!  Teens & Tuesdays meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at Schimelpfenig Library and Teens & Thursdays meets on the third Thursday of the month at Harrington Library at 7:00 p.m.

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meets on the fourth Monday of each month, January through May and August through October, at 5:00 p.m. at Schimelpfenig Library.  Teens interested in having an active voice in their community library are encouraged to submit an application available at their library in October.

The Circle of Success Center for grades first through ninth provides free after-school academic assistance for children.  The Center’s goal is to reinforce lessons taught in the classroom and to provide tutoring in basic math and reading.  Trained adults and high school students volunteer their assistance on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Harrington Library from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
Come and enjoy the many ongoing programs for all ages @ your library!
