An Array of Plano Groups Come Together At the 2nd Annual Plano International Festival

Organizers of the second annual Plano International Festival are excited to announce the participation of a wide range of Plano organizations in this year’s event, which is set for Saturday, October 21 from 10am to 4pm in Haggard Park in downtown Plano. This free event is designed showcase the rich tapestry of cultures represented by the residents of Plano through ethnic food, music and dance performances, children’s workshops, cultural displays and other events and activities.

The children’s area of the Festival will feature many of Plano’s outstanding cultural organizations. The Plano Symphony Orchestra will present an instrument petting zoo to see and touch instruments from woodwind to percussion. Plano Children’s Theater will offer painting and other hands-on art projects. The Plano Public Library System will present the puppet show Manana Iguana. Plano’s Heritage Farmstead Museum will offer period crafts and demonstrations. Andrews Elementary, of the Plano ISD, will offer face painting. The Quilter’s Guild of Plano will demonstrate spinning, weaving and quilting.

Plano ISD is helping to coordinate the Festival’s kick-off event, a Parade of Nations, where more than 50 PISD students wearing traditional dress carry the flags of their native countries.  The Plano Police Department will have a police car for kids to climb into in the Cultural area.

“One of the many exciting things about the Plano International Festival is the level of collaboration we’ve achieved with other Plano organizations”, stated Graciela Katzer, president of the Plano International Festival Corporation. “It really helps to strengthen community relationships and gives everyone who attends the chance to enjoy these
wonderful organizations all in one place.”

About the Plano International Festival

The Plano International Festival was conceived by Plano’s Multicultural Outreach Roundtable (MCOR) to showcase and celebrate the many cultures represented by the citizens of Plano. It is designed to promote awareness of cultural diversity and facilitate communication between all cultural groups. It also serves to advance Plano’s visibility and standing as an international city. The Festival is sponsored by the Plano International Festival Corporation (PIFC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and is underwritten by the City of Plano.
