Represented in Food
Court
and Cultural Display

Annual Plano
International Festival
More than 30 nations will be represented in the Cultural Area
and Food Court of the upcoming 2nd annual Plano International
Festival. The free event, to be held on Saturday, October 21 from 10am to 4pm in
Haggard Park in downtown Plano, is designed showcase the rich tapestry of
cultures represented by the residents of Plano through ethnic food, music and
dance performances, children’s workshops, cultural displays and other events and
activities.
Local
organizations representing 23 countries will educate and entice attendees with
cultural displays and artifacts and unique handicrafts for sale. In the
Americas
section, attendees can learn about Argentinean and Puerto Rican culture, shop
for jewelry from Mexico
and Peru
and visit with the Collin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The Asian area
will feature Nepalese and Philippine artifacts, Chinese teapots and calligraphy
and Sri Lankan paintings as well as displays from Vietnam,
the Celebrating Asian American Heritage Foundation and New Tang Dynasty
Television. Representing Europe will be the Alliance
Française du Nord du Texas,
the Irish American Society and the Polish American Association. Also featured
will be Turkish arts and crafts, hand-painted porcelain from Uzbekistan,
displays from Russia
and Sweden
and a multi-cultural display from the International Women’s Club. Representing
Africa will be Project
Mission MOVE and the Future Generation African Girls
Association.
Several community
service organizations will also be represented in the cultural area. From the
City of Plano will be the
Plano
police department, the PISD Council of PTAs, the PISD Diversity Advocacy
Committee and Plano Sister Cities Inc. Other organizations include Habitat for
Humanity, Collin
County
Community
College, the World Affairs
Council of DFW and the American Association of University
Women.
The Festival’s
food court will be equally enticing, offering delicacies from
Italy
to Ethiopia.
The featured vendors are: Mango Thai Cuisine, Tino’s Cantina, Addis Ethiopian
Cuisine, Café Amore, Boricua Dallas with Puerto Rican cuisine, the Turkish
American Education Foundation with Middle Eastern dishes, Brazil Brasileiro,
Chettinaad
Palace
with Indian cuisine and Euphoria Smoothies.
Festival

the Plano
International Festival
The Plano
International Festival was conceived by Plano’s
Multicultural Outreach Roundtable (MCOR) to showcase and celebrate the many
cultures represented by the citizens of Plano.
It is designed to promote awareness of cultural diversity and facilitate
communication between all cultural groups. It also serves to advance Plano’s
visibility and standing as an international city. The Festival is sponsored by
the Plano International Festival Corporation (PIFC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization, and is underwritten by the City of Plano.
