GYM CLASS DROPOUTS BAND “GETS ACTIVE @ YOUR LIBRARY” DURING TEEN READ WEEK

Plano Public Library System (PPLS) celebrates Teen Read Week from October 16 through October 20.  This year’s theme is “Get Active @your library” with performances by Gym Class Dropouts on Friday, October 20 at Davis Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), established Teen Read Week in 1998.  Teen Read Week is celebrated nationally and is designed to encourage teens across America to “read for the fun of it.”

Teens are encouraged to make their vote count by reading books nominated by other teens on the American Library Association’s www.ALA.org/teenstopten Web site.  They may then vote for their top 10 favorite books.  The winning books will appear on ALA’s Best Books for Young Adults 2006 list.

Gym Class Dropouts, a young local band, will wrap up Teen Read Week.  Corey, Don, John, and JR will be playing from their Chicken Soup for the Swollen Forehead collection that spotlights their unique style of music, ranging from jazz to rock.  This band recently placed second in the “Sponsor My Band” contest with their single, “Olly Olly Oxen Free.”  Teens (sixth through 12th-grade) are invited to this free performance.
