Keep Plano Beautiful Partners With Other Agencies to Provide Yard Spruce-Ups for Twenty Area Seniors

Keep Plano Beautiful (KPB) is partnering with Phi Theta Kappa, Plano Senior High School Students , and various church volunteers to spruce up the  yards of twenty area senior citizens.  The spruce-ups, which will take place on Saturday, October 28, “Make A Difference Day,” grew out of discussions with seniors who want their front lawns to look well groomed but are unable to do so themselves or hire outside help.

KPB volunteers will mow, edge, weed eat, clean flowerbeds, and provide some friendly chatter with the homeowners whose names have been provided by the Plano Senior Center, the Geriatric Wellness Center, and the Collin County Committee on Aging.  The homeowners have been contacted in advance and have requested specific tasks they’d like done during the spruce-up of their yards.

Homeowners will receive special “care packages” put together by Girl Scouts from Troop 86 out of Frisco/Little Elm, and Phi Theta Kappa volunteers will donate small pumpkins along with notes of encouragement and fall greetings.

KPB Education Coordinator, Ms. Casey Eckert, said since KPB volunteers enjoyed this activity so much last year, it was decided to continue yearly spruce-ups with the goal to help more seniors each year.  Last year, ten yard spruce-ups were completed.  Eckert stated, “It is our hope that the homeowners will enjoy a vibrant and healthy rejuvenated landscape, and our volunteers will once again reap the rewards of helping those who are unable to maintain their yards as they would like.
