A New Jacket for Every Student on Texas Recycles Day at Mendenhall Elementary in Plano

Students at Mendenhall Elementary School in Plano will celebrate Texas Recycles Day in a big way on Wednesday, November 15 when each student receives a new fleece jacket made from the fiber of #1 plastic bottles.

A jacket for every student is one of the rewards for Mendenhall’s outstanding participation in the Return the Warmth plastic bottle recycling contest last spring, announced Glenna Brown, City of Plano Recycling Education Coordinator.

The PISD school, honored as one of the top 50 schools in the nation for collecting more than 3,000 pounds of plastic bottles, qualified to receive the jackets and a $1,000 gift card from Sam’s Club.  The contest was sponsored by Aquafina, Sam’s Club and Keep America Beautiful.
