Engineering Touts First Departmental LEED AP – Paul Glenn

Good for the environment and good for the City of Plano. Senior Facilities Construction Coordinator, Paul Glenn is the first Engineering department staff member to successfully complete the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation process.

“The LEED Accreditation Program affects us directly in the Facilities Division because we’re concerned with the life cycle of every building,” said Glenn. “Sustainable design is good for the environment and future generations.”

LEED certification is the recognized standard for measuring building sustainability. The LEED Green Building Rating System™, developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

“I appreciate Paul’s willingness to devote significant time and energy to increasing his understanding of green buildings,” said Nancy Nevil, Director, Sustainability and Environmental Services. “This knowledge will be very useful as Plano continues to embrace the sustainability features promoted by the U.S. Green Building Council.”

The City of Plano currently has five employees that are LEED accredited to assist in the planning and building of sustainable projects. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their building’s performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy-efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

“Studying for the test exposed me to the different concepts and ideas about sustainable design that could be implemented, said Glenn. “ I am a Certified Construction Contract Administrator, and the LEED program complements what I’ve gained from the Construction Specification Institute because of the focus on construction documents.”
