Dedicated Driver achieves 25 Year Milestone – Clarence Boyd

The first things you notice about Clarence Boyd, truck driver, Sustainability and Environmental Services, might be his infectious smile and the mischievous twinkle in his eye; however, beneath this light-hearted demeanor is unflappable dedication and pride.

“I’m dependable and the job is always done, every time, all the time,” said Boyd. “I maintain my equipment, complete my route on time, and then I help everyone else with theirs.”

Employed with the City of Plano for 25 years, his duties have included driving a landscape collection truck, manual collection, automated service, and training new employees on the manual side-load trucks.

“He was very good and everyone knew when you finished training with Clarence you were ready for a route,” said Mike Wallace, supervisor. “He was so efficient on his route that he could do push-ups between stops, not just once or twice, but all day.”

Currently, Boyd drives a residential yard trimmings collection truck. While out on his route, he helps other drivers by removing cardboard from the recycling carts and positioning carts to allow for easier access.

“Clarence is always the same, a great team player, “said Wallace, “and, he’s so quick when he throws a bag into the truck, it sounds like a shotgun blast.”

Known for his sophisticated fashion sense and smooth moves on the dance floor, Boyd’s priorities are simple when it comes to planning for the future. “I already have my Cadillac, but I guess I’d like to have the Cadillac without the payments. “
