KEEP PLANO BEAUTIFUL ANNOUNCES T-SHIRT DESIGN WINNER: “CLEANER MEANS GREENER – DON’T LITTER”
Keep Plano Beautiful (KPB) announced Jay Purohit, fourth grader, Skaggs Elementary School, the winner of the 2007 Great American Cleanup™
T-shirt design contest. Plano Mayor Pat Evans honored Purohit during a presentation prior to the December 11 City Council meeting at the Plano Municipal Center.
The contest was held during the month of September and included Plano students ranging from Kindergarten to fifth grade. The children created a design celebrating the theme, “CLEANER MEANS GREENER – DON’T LITTER”. Held in conjunction with the Plano Public Library System and PISD Environmental Clubs, children were encouraged to visit any public library or school environmental club to pickup an entry form and discover inspiration through a variety of environmental resource materials.
The KPB t-shirt design contest has been held for four years with a student from Skaggs Elementary School winning every year. This is the second consecutive win for Purohit. The design will be featured on 2,500 t-shirts, which will be worn by volunteers participating in this year’s Great American Cleanup™ on April 14. The 2007 Great American Cleanup™, sponsored by Keep Plano Beautiful, celebrates its 22nd year in keeping Plano cleaner and greener. The event represents the largest citywide cleanup initiative of the year and depends on volunteers to collaborate in picking up litter. Areas of emphasis include roadways, neighborhoods, creeks, parks, and playgrounds. Working cooperatively instills a shared sense of responsibility in keeping Plano a clean and healthy community.
