| Bubbles to Barks, Dog Wash Benefit a Hit!

From the sheepdog who patiently waited for the suds to be rinsed from his
long shaggy coat to the pup who would rather have been in Cleveland, both
bubbles and barks were in the air as volunteers lathered and scrubbed a
multitude of dogs to benefit the Plano Animal Shelter.
The Sunday, April 3 event was the held at SUDAPUP, the do-it-yourself pet
“washateria” at 1070 W. Spring Creek Parkway, sponsor of the event. A
portion of each dog wash benefited the Shelter
“We had 48 dogs washed and groomed as our final tally, raising over $225 for
the Shelter,” said Animal Services Senior Administrative Assistant Debbie
New, pictured above right with a blissful Basset Hound.
“We couldn’t have done this without our wonderful volunteers,” said Ms. New.
“We had energetic volunteers like Dave Forman, out of Fire Station #8, show
up with his family to lend a hand. He saw the event posted on our website
and figured we could use some help.”
A warm spring day was an incentive for pet owners to give their happy hounds
a spring cleaning at the event, while helping out the dogs waiting for homes
at the Shelter.
The Shelter is the recipient of many fundraisers throughout the year,
ranging from individuals who bring in donations of food, toys and cash to
companies, such as SUDAPUP, who sponsor special events to aid the Shelter
pets.
Willow Bend Mall sponsored a special photo with Santa event in December,
with lines of people and pets snaking throughout the mall halls to help the
Shelter and have a holiday photo of their pet at the same time. This past
fall, PBS&J sponsored a “doggy bag” luncheon at their facility, which raised
funds for the Shelter. Many times, employee teams will designate Plano’s
Animal Shelter as the recipient of special fundraisers throughout the year.
For individuals, donations can be as simple as paper towels, bleach, laundry
detergent, cotton balls to Iams canned kitten, puppy, cat or dog food to
litter to bandanas for adoptable pets to wear at special events. Every
contribution to the Shelter is tax deductible. Cash donations to the Shelter
may also be made “in memoriam” honoring beloved pets.
Volunteers are always welcomed to help assist in a variety of duties at the
Shelter. If you are interested in a volunteer position or would like to
involve your group or business in an event, contact Ms. New at 972-769-4360.
