City of Plano 2005 Bond Referendum Propositions, Part II of II

The following is designed to provide a brief explanation of each proposition.

Proposition One. Totals $21,700,000 and is for Fire Facilities in the City of Plano. This proposition includes funding for construction of two new fire stations, a logistic facility (fire supply and equipment storage), an emergency operations center, the expansion of Fire Station #4, the purchase of fire fighting equipment, and the reconfiguration and security enhancements for existing fire stations in the City of Plano.

Proposition Two. Totals $2,000,000 and is for Library Facilities. This proposition includes the remodeling of the Haggard Library basement, which includes the relocation of the Genealogy/Local History/Texana section from Harrington Library to Haggard Library. This proposition also includes funds for furnishing and equipping all five library facilities with furniture and fixtures.

Proposition Three. Totals $1,355,000 and is for the Plano Animal Shelter. This proposition includes funds for renovating, improving and expanding the Plano Animal Shelter by approximately 5,000 square feet to provide a receiving area for animals, indoor/outdoor runs, additional facilities for staff, a surgery area for animal spay/neuter and a recovery room.

Proposition Four. Totals $57,775,000 and is for Park Improvements. This proposition includes funding for the continued development of Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, Memorial Park and Archgate Park. Funding for the acquisition of park land including land west of Preston Road as well as various other locations throughout the City of Plano. General park improvements including athletic field improvements, trail additions and enhancements, parking, tennis court lighting, a dog park, a skate park, a sculpture park, picnic shelters, playgrounds, tree planting, improvements to greenbelts, neighborhood parks, community parks and nature preserves. Also included are bicycle transportation system improvements, a new park maintenance facility, golf course improvements and renovation of the Aquatic Center.

Proposition Five. Totals $6,600,000 and is for the expansion and renovation of Carpenter Park Recreation Center. This proposition includes the addition of facilities for all ages including expanded exercise and fitness facilities, locker room improvements, a warm water fitness pool, updating of the existing facilities, additional parking and associated improvements.

Proposition Six. Totals $55,372,000 and is for Street Improvement Projects. This proposition includes funding for the construction, reconstruction, expansion and enhancements of streets, thoroughfares, alleys, sidewalks, bridges, intersections, traffic signalization, street lighting and other public ways. This includes participation in joint projects with federal, state and local public entities and agencies, and the acquisition of any needed rights-of-way.
