As July 4 draws near it’s easy to get excited about the thought of sending
up a bottle rocket or two after the family picnic. If you’re in the Plano
City Limits, however, that string of poppers, sparklers or bottle rockets
could result in a fine.
Besides the opportunity for igniting roofs, grass or trees, personal safety
is a prime factor to be considered any time fireworks are used. Ordinance
No. 98-3-32 prohibits the use of fireworks in Plano, establishing fines that
could reach up to $2,000.
While most cities have ordinances prohibiting the sale, possession and
discharge of fireworks within their city limits, not all county locations
carry these restrictions. If you plan to purchase fireworks, to be shot at a
county location, first contact the Fire Marshal Office for that county to
ensure you are in a designated safe and legal area.
The Collin County Fire Marshal may be reached:

972-548-5576
The Denton County Fire Marshal may be reached:
www.co.denton.tx.us (Departments)
940-349-2840
Both Collin and Denton counties offer information via web regarding county
fireworks discharge. Possession and/or discharge of fireworks on U.S. Corps
of Engineer Property is illegal. This includes most parks and property
adjoining major lakes, such as Lavon and Ray Hubbard.
Plano celebrations on July 4 will include the Plano Chamber of Commerce July
Fourth Parade, 9:30 a.m., Independence Parkway, Park to Spring Creek
Parkway.
The City of Plano All-American Fourth Fireworks extravaganza will be held at
High Point Park, 6500 Alma Road, at Spring Creek Parkway, July 4, 9:30 p.m.
Patriotic music will be simulcast on radio station KHYI 95.3 FM.
