Plano’s Annual Drinking Water Report Published

Posted: August 15, 2005

It’s safe, it’s pure, it’s delivered fresh to your door daily! As a water consumer in the City of Plano, you will enjoy “Superior” water every time you turn on the tap!

“Superior” is the state’s highest water quality designation, accorded the City of Plano for excellence in meeting water quality criteria. And, attesting to the quality of Plano’s drinking water, is the City’s 2005 Annual Water Quality Report, mailed to every Plano water consumer this month.

The Report sets out valuable information including water taste and odor, use of water filters, bottled water, cryptosporidium and lead, water conservation, storm water runoff effect on water quality and water education programs offered by the City.

Most importantly, the Report lists contaminants detected in the North Texas Municipal Water District drinking water supplied to the City of Plano, which indicates our water quality system again surpasses the standards for each contaminant, as required by law.

Plano’s “Superior” water supply meets and exceeds all federal and state regulations for drinking water. It has never violated any standard.

Plano contracts with the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) for the water supply to our community, being a founding member of the District in 1951. NTMWD obtains surface water from three sources: Lake Lavon, Plano’s primary water source, and Lakes Texoma and Cooper, our supplemental water sources.

In addition to daily monitoring by NTMWD of both the raw water in Lake Lavon and the treated water, Plano’s Utility Operations team takes over 130 water samples from across the City each month to ensure Plano’s drinking water reaches consumers clean and pure. The samples are analyzed in the NTMWD laboratory, with quality reports submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
