The City of Plano will be funneling its support for hurricane victims
through the Dallas Regional Shelter, established at Reunion Arena. Hurricane
victims are advised to report to Reunion Arena for sheltering and
assistance.
The shift to a regional support location will enable hurricane relief
agencies to direct aid where it is needed. It will also help loved ones to
get information on their missing family members.
A support hotline with shelter information and services available for
Katrina victims is available by calling 2-1-1.
With the outpouring of humanity and concern also extending to the animal
population, information can be found at
www.katrina.petfinder.com,
among others, for information about animal welfare efforts and needs in the
affected areas.
Persons should be cautious of potential scams of persons posing as hurricane
victims or those setting up relief efforts. It is recommended donations be
made through agencies designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). A
related article on those agencies, along with Plano blood donation centers,
can be found here.
