For
the Plano Police and Fire/Rescue Departments protecting the welfare of our
community through often-times life-saving, near heroic actions is part of the
workday. For these
nationally-Accredited, internationally-respected agencies, the commitment to
maintaining the public health and safety of our citizenry and visitors is
second to none.
Now,
for a second year, these two Departments are putting a new twist on saving lives
through a unique competition, open to the public, the Second Annual Battle of
the Badges Blood Drive. The drive is sponsored by the Plano Sunrise
Rotary Club in cooperation with Carter BloodCare.
“This
is the time of the year when accidents and injuries increase and the ‘Battle of
the Badges’ is a great way to help insure that adequate blood supplies are
available for our community during this time of high demand,” said Acting
Plano Fire Chief Bob Acker. “While the
event is themed around a friendly Fire vs. Police competition, both Departments
are fully united in supporting this event. Chief Rushin and I jointly look
forward to a record breaking collection this year."
Beginning
Thursday, July 13, 2006 and continuing through Saturday, July 15, 2006, the public
will have the opportunity to join Police, Fire and municipal staff in donating
blood to Carter BloodCare at locations throughout the community throughout the
day. Persons can dedicate their donation
to a “badge,” with Fire this year hoping to unseat Police, last year’s victor
by a slim margin.
“This
is an opportunity for everyone to donate blood for our community with our
Police and Firemen,” said Police Chief Greg Rushin. “The Police and Fire
Departments have structured this event around a good natured competition
between the two Departments, to assist in this very important effort. We
are very proud of the results from last year, and hope to do even better this
year.”
