You’ve decided to take that long awaited photo-safari to South Africa and discover vaccinations are recommended against Cholera, Typhoid, and possibly Bilharzia. Your business trip to Burundi will require proof of a Yellow Fever vaccination. For your temporary work permit in Kuwait you’ll need an HIV test and other travel abroad may encompass recommended vaccinations targeting everything from Diphtheria to Meningococcal to Tick-Borne Encephalitis.
The Collin County Health Care Services (CCHCS) reminds residents to take proper steps to ensure their health is protected if they are planning a trip abroad this summer. CCHCS staff can assess individual needs and travel plans to determine what immunizations and/or medications may be needed and provide education about potential health risks they may encounter while traveling.
Some diseases no longer a threat in developed countries are serious problems in developing countries. Some countries may even require proof of immunization against certain conditions. Contaminated food or drink, inadequate sanitation, lack of clean water – all can be sources of infections. CCHCS travel medication program can help you evaluate these risks and provide vaccinations and travel medicines your primary physician may not stock.
A sampling of vaccines/medicines offered by the clinic include: Chicken pox, Hepatitis A&B, Immune Globulin, Influenza, Malaria prescription, Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Pneumonia, Polio, Tetanus/Diphtheria, Typhoid and Yellow Fever.
