Balloon Festival Crew/Volunteers Needed

Posted:  August 29, 2006

It’s an amazing sight as the skies over Plano fill with colorful hot air balloons and specialty shapes during the nationally-recognized ViewPoint Bank Plano Balloon Festival!

Held September 22, 23 and 24, 2006, this year’s Festival again promises to be a feast for the eyes and the skies as thousands of persons congregate in Plano to view the Balloons and ground activities throughout the three-day event.

Volunteers are needed to assist as crews for the launch and chase of the various balloons, which promises a front and center up close view of the center few can experience.  Volunteers who qualify for crew membership are on a first-come basis, with limited openings.  There are two flights daily starting with Friday morning.  Volunteer crews help with any combination of launch, chase and pack-up, but will not be flying with the pilots.  Young adults who meet the age and parental permission requirements may be accepted.

All volunteers must participate in training sessions which are taught by pilots from the Plano Ballooning Association.  There are two sessions:  Thursday, September 7, 2006, 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Harrington Library, 1501 18th Street, Plano, and same time and place on Wednesday, September 13.  Volunteers must first register to attend a session.

Online registration is available, as well as detailed information on the Festival itself.  Other volunteer opportunities are available for the Festival as well, with information contained on the Festival website.  To check out your eligibility to become a member of the volunteer “Chase Crews,” or to explore other volunteer opportunities, go the balloon website and click on “Volunteers.”
