Plano Animal Shelter Overflowing with Loving Dogs for Adoption

Posted:  September 8, 2006

“How much is that doggie in the window?  The one with the waggely tail.  How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie’s for sale!”

50’s singer Patti Page had a number one hit with “How Much is That Doggie in the Window” when she teamed up with novelty songwriter Bob Merrill.  You, too, can have a number one hit on your hands when you team up with Plano Animal Services to find the perfect “waggely tail” canine for your home!

“Right now we are beyond full,” said Debbie New, Senior Administrative Assistant, GAP Canine Diagnostician.  “We are truly bursting at the seams, with no empty kennels due to the tremendous amount of dogs being given up by their owners.  We have Labs, Chihuahuas, Great Pyrenees, Border Collies, Swiss Mountain Dogs, Boxers and many mixes.”

Often dogs turned into a shelter are thought of as “someone else’s behavioral problem that I don’t want to inherit.”  Not the case.  Most are not turned in because of bad behavior, with many simply lost and never reclaimed.  Many are turned in for financial reasons, or owners are having a baby and no longer want a pet.  Many persons simply under-estimate the size of their pup, which grows to large for an apartment or small yard.

Duke is a happy pup who grew too large to keep in a small apartment.  Lady is a delightful little lady who was abandoned and locked in an empty apartment when the owners left.  Rudy is a chipper Chihuahua pup who was given over to the Shelter when his family broke up.  Chelsea is an adorable Corgi mix who was surrendered when the owners decided they couldn’t spend enough time with her – she’s playful and loves to fetch, walk, play and shake hands. Bingo is a mature sweet adult who was given up with his younger companion when the owner could no longer care for them.

Large and small, young and old, the Shelter has an outstanding assortment of lovable pooches waiting for adoptive homes.  All are lovable, happy dogs eager to please and waiting for a permanent home.  There’s the perfect pet for anyone, and the cat crowd isn’t being left behind – a great assortment of cats and kittens are also looking for new homes.

Adoption fees (Visa and Mastercard accepted) for pets are:

Dogs:  $75 (includes the spay-neuter, rabies vaccination and DHLP-P vaccinations)
$40 for “Very Important Pets,” designated dogs with personality plus!

Cats:  $50 (includes the spay-neuter, rabies vaccination ad FRCP vaccinations)
$40 for “Very Important Pets,” designated cats with purrs galore!

A sampling of dogs currently up for adoption include Racquet (11829) a young Shepard/Border Collie who is house trained, good with children and other pets and can walk on his back legs!  He loves to fetch!  Sandy (3361) is a lovable VIP, an adult Spaniel mix who was lost and suffering from a head injury.  Now fully on the mend, Sandy is housetrained, smart, lovable and very sweet!

Max (3078) is just a youngster.  He’s a Catahoula Leopard mix who is in dog heaven when playing ball.  He’s smart, loveable and housetrained!  Rudy (11827) is a loveable 6-month old black Chihuahua.  He likes other dogs, is good with children and is working hard on his housetraining!  Then we have Pierre (10569) another Shelter VIP who was lost and never found by his owner.  Pierre is a happy and friendly Great Swiss Mountain mix, but he’s willing to give up the Alps for a permanent home in Plano!

You can view a selection of adoptive dogs and cats at the Shelter site by clicking here.  But the best way to see the pets and “make their day” is to go to the Shelter where you can cuddle and play with prospective pets in the visitor rooms.
