Free Tree Maintenance Class Offered September 20

Posted:  September 19, 2006

Autumn is slowly creeping into Plano, but our long summer drought has brought browned leaves and bare branches a bit sooner than expected to our Plano treescape.

Watering restrictions, lack of rain and record-breaking summer heat have all taken their toll on many of our trees, with scarcely a median or block of landscaping free from barren trees or wilted leaves.

Is this a fatal blow to your landscape or just a natural protective reaction as the tree goes into early dormancy?  Are your trees stressed and in need of a Zen-lift through nutrition and fertilization and changes in water patterns or times?  It might surprise you how Mother Nature handles drought and enables our canopy of green to regenerate and renew for rebirth in spring.

Wednesday, September 20, 7pm – 9pm, Plano Municipal Center, 1520 Avenue K, a free Tree Maintenance Class is being offered by the City of Plano featuring speaker William H. Seaman.

Mr. Seaman is a Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture and Texas Certified Arborist #1153.  He attended a Masters Program in Landscape Architecture (UT-Arlington) and holds a B. S. Ornamental Horticulture degree from Texas Tech University.  He is currently employed with Arborilogical Services, Inc. Tree Care Experts.

Mr. Seaman will discuss how to recognize the signs of tree stress, dormancy, tree nutrition and water needs, fertilization and will answer questions.

“This is an excellent opportunity to learn proper care for your precious trees,” said Lorrie Reeves, the City’s Water Education Coordinator.  “Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and is free to the public.”
