The spotlight is on children’s literature this week at the Plano libraries, as Children’s Book Week is celebrated through November 19, with activities designed to celebrate the wonderful world of children’s books!
“Each building has a welcoming and colorful children’s area where adults and children are encouraged to read and discover books, puzzles, magazines, books on CD, DVD’s and more,” said Library Childrens Services Supervisor Ramarie Beaver.
Children will delight in seeing Tacky, the beloved penguin from the Helen Lester books, who will visit libraries during preschool storytimes:
Wednesday, November 15, 10:30am: Davis Library, 7501-B Independence Parkway Wednesday, November 15, 7pm: Schimelpfenig Library, 5024 Custer Road Thursday, November 16, 10:30am: Harrington Library, 1501 18th Street
Art will blossom as children pick up a blank picture of an open book at any library location, which they may decorate and return for display throughout the month of November on a special “More Books, Please!” library bulletin board.
Each library will have a prize drawing for a brand new children’s book in three different age groups: Pre-K through Kindergarten, First Grade through Third Grade and Fourth Grade through Fifth Grade.
Families are encouraged to celebrate children and children’s books through attending children’s programming at the libraries and instilling a love of reading in children through family reading time out loud at home.
“We have a great selection of books and with our system allowing ‘on holds’ on items from any library, it’s as if patrons have five Plano library collections at their fingertips,” said Ms. Beaver. “The weekly programs we offer for preschool children ages 0-5 are professional and our trained staffed provides quality programming.”
There are five Plano library locations offering a portal to imagination, dreams and information for children and adults of all ages: Harrington (1501 18th St.); Haggard (2501 Coit Rd.); Schimelpfenig (5024 Custer Road); Parr (6200 Windhaven Ct.); Davis (7501 N. Independence). A Municipal Reference Library is located at Plano Municipal Center (1501 Avenue K.)
