What the City of Plano is doing to ensure healthy swimming pool water
Each pool features automated chemical controllers that detect changes in sanitation levels and feed chlorine on demand to meet local and state health code requirements. Additionally, pool operators manually perform water tests every two hours throughout the day. Two facilities, Oak Point Center and Tom Muehlenbeck Center utilize UV (ultra-violet light) sanitation on the indoor pools, in addition to traditional chlorine sanitizers.
When conditions indicate a need to super-chlorinate, or hyper-chlorinate, the pool we will do so following the Centers for Disease Control recommendations. We are committed to maintaining healthy pools and encourage you to visit www.healthyswimming.org for additional information on Recreation Water Illness, including cryptosporidium.
You may also view a short video clip by the Health Department regarding cryptosporidium on the Plano Television Network.
Park Irrigation System Difficulties We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties beyond our control with the irrigation systems in the parks. Landscape watering at parks, athletic sites, public buildings and on medians are being affected.
Residents are encouraged to assist by calling the Park Maintenance staff at 972-941-7263 to report any problems observed with public irrigation systems or plant material that is under stress. All attempts will be made to correct the problem as soon as possible.

New Practice Establishing Conservation Buffer Zones Undertaking a new natural resource management technique the Parks and Recreation Department has started establishing Conservation Buffer Zones in various locations throughout town. These are strips of permanent vegetation designed to manage environmental concerns and are maintained under a unique set of principles
Adjacent to a forest edge or waters edge a buffer zone can: protect soil from erosion reduce the speed of water runoff increase soil stabilization trap sediments enhance water filtration rates trap/filter fertilizer, pesticides and heavy metals enhance fish and wildlife habitats protect biodiversity
As the department continues identifying ideal areas for conservation buffer zones you will begin seeing signs like the one above. We hope you will appreciate and enjoy this addition to our community's park system.
