The addition of a Mental Health Coordinator MHC position at the Plano Police Department is intended to improve the Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) Program by helping our first responders, families and consumers.
The MHC duties include:
Routinely coordinate with community CIT members including mental health and medical providers, educators, advocacy groups and other local, county and state agencies.
Meet with and be a point of contact when issues arise during incidents with our members.
Represent the department at community meetings where the interest of the police department is a concern.
Assist with CIT training and consult with detectives, victim assistance, hostage negotiators, chaplains and others who might need her expertise.
Follow-up on reports when CIT follow-up is indicated.
The Plano Police Department's Mental Health Coordinator Nicole Bowers holds a Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and has been working in the area of mental health since 2007. She last worked at the Medical Center of McKinney on the Wysong Campus.
