Bike and Scooter Share Program
What is the Bike and Scooter Share Program?
The City of Plano has approved the use of bike and scooter sharing. This mode of transportation will provide the public with a new mobility choice within the City. The program is a dockless bike and scooter share, allowing users to rent a bike or scooter through a smart-phone app, and park it at the end of their ride. The City is permitting qualified companies to operate their units in certain parts of the City. If any company fails to comply with the terms of the permit, the permit can be revoked.
How does the dockless bike and scooter share program work?
- Download the bike or scooter share rental company’s app to your smart device (available iOS app and Google Play stores).
- Using the app, bikes or scooters can be located near you and unlocked.
- Upon completion of the ride, park and relock the bike or scooter.
Where do I park the bike or scooter when I’m finished?
Upon completion of your ride, bikes and scooters should be parked upright and positioned so as not impede pedestrian access.
Please do NOT leave bikes or scooters blocking sidewalks or in:
- Loading zones
- Accessible parking zones
- Barrier free ramps
- Non-hard surfaces
The permit requirements allow bike and scooter share companies the ability to stage bikes and scooters for rental in designated areas called “Home Zones”. The home zones are limited to hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt, brick). Companies will be required to reposition their bikes or scooters every night.
