The Plano Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) has established a new program for citizens living with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The program, Police Traffic Stops, Contacts, and Positive Outcomes, is taught by Plano Police Officers. They will present information designed to decrease the fear of being pulled over and other forms of police contact with the impaired general public.
Following a short classroom presentation, role-play exercises are offered for those students wishing to participate. Parents and family are encouraged to attend and build on the classroom information. Families of individuals with IDD often have concerns about safety during these contacts and the criminal justice system in general.
The Department has initiated this program in an effort to alleviate fears and form positive positive relationships. The Police Traffic Stops, Contacts, and Positive Outcomes classes will be offered throughout the year.
If you are interested in finding out more about this program or signing for a Police Traffic Stops, Contacts, and Positive Outcomes Class, please contact Officer Hayley Dick or call (972) 941-2210.
