Protect Your Pets from Summer Heat

Dog Panting

It’s hot outside! Be sure to keep your pet in mind during this Texas summer.

During the summer, always make sure:

  • Your pets have access to clean, fresh water.
  • Your pets can escape the heat, preferably indoors. Just like you, they enjoy fans, too.
  • To check the temperature of concrete before walking your dog. To check if the pavement is too hot, place the back of your hand on the pavement for five seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. Try walking your dog early in the morning or in the evening once the sun has gone down.
  • To never leave your pet in the car no matter the temperature. It is a violation of City Ordinance to leave any animal in a car in such a way that endangers their health. If you see a pet in a car that you are worried could be in danger, please call 911 to report it as an emergency.

If you have any questions, give the Plano Animal Shelter a call at 972-769-4360.
