Community Outreach Specialist, Parks and Recreation
I am responsible for sharing information about our department with the public. Outreach for my department takes many forms, from managing our social media accounts to maintaining a blog on our website and interacting with local media outlets. I also keep the public informed when it comes to our many ongoing projects. I also work with the City’s Communications and Community Outreach Department on videos for dissemination on YouTube and social media. A big part of my outreach includes having information booths at a variety of community events, as well as attending local HOA meetings.
As a former journalist, I love what I do because it allows me to use my talents (interviewing, photography, social media, research, etc.) and take it to a whole new level. I enjoy representing a department whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of every resident in Plano.
I had gotten to know many Parks and Recreation staff as a reporter, and as I got to know them and familiarize myself with the department’s 50-year history, I realized that I wanted to be a part of that legacy. The benefits are amazing, and my work-life balance has improved immensely since I started here three years ago.
Most people don’t know this, but I am half Turkish!
