The Sam Johnson Recreation Center for Adults 50+ (401 W. 16th St.) has an impressive lineup for those looking to get fit and have fun this spring!
With its 2,800-square-foot cardio and weight room, modern and spacious classrooms, billiards room, coffee bar and more, there are many ways to explore this newly renovated center. While you’re there, have lunch at the Gazebo Café (open 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday)! Sign up for classes and learn about center memberships here.
Here are just a few upcoming activities at the Sam Johnson Recreation Center:
Fitness:Brain, Body & Balance (#25809): This workout improves balance, sharpens the mind, and strengthens the body. Great for beginners! $69 for six sessions. Classes start on Feb. 25.Weight Room Orientation (#23702): Let a certified personal fitness trainer show you how to use weight room equipment and give you tips to maximize your workout. $9Chairobics-NEW! (#25862 & 25863): Get fit while you sit! Designed for those with limited mobility, this class strengthens muscle groups while increasing range of motion. $59 for six sessions. Classes start on March 3 and April 14.
Table Tennis open play: Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m.; Fridays from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Social:Bingo: Wednesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30-11 a.m. Cost: $1 per card (5-card maximum).“Kings of Swing” Dance: Thursdays from 12:30-2 p.m.Evening dances: Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m.The Vocal Seniority: This singing group performs at care facilities in the area and meets each Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Call Gay Byrd at 972-267-7625 if you are interested in joining or seeing a performance.
Education:Tax-Aide: Trained preparers from AARP are here each Monday to help with your income tax returns, for FREE! Bring your paperwork and stop by between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. No appointment necessary.Hands-only CPR (Course #24900): This class takes place on Tuesday, March 24 from 10-11 a.m. and is taught by Plano Fire-Rescue. FREE!
