Los Rios Park Final Master Plan

Pecan Hollow Erosion Control Project

This location is where the Los Rios Golf Course formerly operated. The City purchased the land in 2014 with grant assistance from Collin County, and a public process began in early 2018 to solicit input and create a master plan for the park. The land will be reprogrammed to city park land in 2020.

Overall Project Timeline:
2018 Master Planning
2019 Design and Bid
2020 Phase 1 Implementation

Park Master Planning
Beginning Sept. 2019, two projects have bid for the park. The first is the demolition of the clubhouse building. This project is forecasted to start around the first of the year 2020, and should be complete within 4-6 weeks. The second project is the removal of cart paths and other unsafe elements within the former golf course. The cart path removal project is forecasted to take approximately 4 months pending weather. The City’s noise ordinance restricts working time to the hours of 7am to 9pm. Both of these projects are major steps forward to the development of Los Rios Park.

Cart Path Removal
Demolition of the existing removal of golf cart paths, a damaged, signage, and other similar items were completed in the spring of 2020. The project removed unsafe infrastructure items of the former golf course as well as regraded and sodded the areas disturbed by the demolition activities. This project was part of Phase I of Los Rios Park, as it readied the site for a future park phases.

Los Rios Park Trail
The Parks and Recreation Department has begun developing construction design plans and the flood study for the park trail that will connect Cottonwood Creek Greenbelt Trail to Bob Woodruff Park Trail. The trail is expected to include bridges, seating, and trash bins along the pathway.

Pecan Hollow Erosion Control
The Pecan Hollow Erosion Control Project addressed continuing erosion issues on the Pecan Hollow Golf Course. Significant erosion was occurring along a bend in Cottonwood Creek north of its confluence with Rowlett Creek, threatening the green and cart path of Hole 17. The project included approximately 500 linear feet of retaining wall to protect the creek bank along the golf course side of Cottonwood Creek. Construction was completed in early Summer 2020. View project map.
